A Case For Rebuilding

As I have been working through rebuilding the data management for the studio, I have come to realize that I really need to rebuild the original chapters of Ethos. This is all in part because things are out of date, and I have learned so much more about design and pre-pressing since these original files were put together.

However, this is a lot of work. But perhaps it is needed both not only on a mechanical level, but on a spiritual one as well. I need to walk the ground I have already treat to bring me back to the place we were at and find the balance I had once lost.

Okay, yeah, that was very wispy, but with a work like Ethos, you have to be willing to go on gut and feeling, and some times even wispy.

Well, Best Laid Plans

So I didn't exactly get to do all the work I had been hoping to do last night. Our yorkie fell and broke three of her toes, so that kind of derailed my plans. Still, some times the matter is not worry about not getting everything done, but simply a matter of making progress itself.

On a side note of Data Management, I've been thinking about putting in a Windows Home Server in place for my wife and just the general media storage. Try and get things a bit more accessible to them without the maintenance overhead that a full blown Active Directory domain will bring.

Plus I do believe in segmentation as much as possible. As is always the case, Data Management is a long term task and job. Here's to cracking away at what I can tonight and into tomorrow.

New (non-publication) Project - Data Management

Okay, this is a bit embarrassing, but in the last several years (though honestly it mostly has been the last year) I've allowed our internal document management to get out of hand.

The reason this is embarrassing is that my day job is in collaboration and data management technologies. So new temp project time!

Total Data Management re-engineering.

First Tasks

  • Plan New Data Management
  • Begin Organizing Data on MacBook
  • Plan New Data Management

We'll see if I get time to check those off my list today.

And The Band Played On

So it's been a silent few months on the public stage for myself. The reasons for that are pretty simple.

In August I married the woman that I loved very much. I became a father to an amazing three year old. And in doing so every day became focused on the two of them.

It can be a bit of a character flaw of mine. I will always have twenty different things up in the air, but at the end of the day I'll find myself focused almost exclusively on two or three of them. And in this dance, my writing and Ethos were left without chairs when the music stopped.

It wasn't because I wanted this. Rather it was a question of the man I was. Which was more important. My family or my life's work. I know the answer.

But it doesn't mean this is the end game. Far from it. It just means now is the time to learn the balance. Balance is that constant struggle and a constant joy.

So it's time to get out the task list and get moving again.
